Craig Balliet is the Chemistry Laboratory Manager at Barker & Herbert Analytical Laboratories,
Inc., and has been with the company since 1983.
He earned a
bachelor of science in chemistry from Indiana University and conducted graduate work in
chromatography and chemical separations at Purdue
University. Mr. Balliet is certified as a
professional chemist by the American Chemical Society.
Mr. Balliet has nearly 40 years direct experience in the fire service, including suppression, investigation, education, and command. This experience enables him to understand fire investigation and to communicate with the investigator with an insight that most chemists do not have.
Mr. Balliet’s responsibilities at Barker & Herbert include
managing of the chemistry laboratory; instrumental analysis of fire debris; qualitative and quantitative chemical analyses; chemical and instrumental analysis of controlled substances and pharmaceutical preparations; courtroom testimony; laboratory examination of evidence for civil and criminal litigation; and security testing of instant game lottery tickets.
Mr.
Balliet’s work in developing numerous techniques for compromising the security of lottery tickets has directly benefited the lottery industry with a much more secure product. Mr. Balliet has qualified as an expert witness in federal court and various state courts including IN, AR, IA, OK, MO, OH, NV, CO, UT, IL, TX, MN, WI, MI, KY, and FL.
